The most logical thing to do would be to end our rental on Saturday and get a hotel room by the airport Saturday night, but I don't think we want to do that. So, I think we should at least think about how we are getting to the airport. I suppose there's always a taxi, but at this time, I'm not sure the best way to schedule one.
So, here's the deal from what I can tell. The Metro doesn't run to the airport, but the Renfe commuter train does.

We need that gray line, the airport is in the lower left hand corner of the map. Placa Catalyuna is the city center stop. Barcelona Sants is the train station where we get in from Seville.
The airport website says we can catch the train from the Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gracia or Clot stops, but I think that is a list of main stops, looks to me like there are other stops. We need a T10 ticket to get to the airport. I'm not sure exactly what that means. (Add "Figure out public transit tickets" to the to do list). Map below is just the commuter trains.

I cannot look at the timetable for Sunday, November 3 yet, but I can for Sunday, October 6.
I used Barcelona Sants (main train station) as an example.
We can take a 5:13 train that gets us to the airport at 5:30, or a 5:35 that arrives at 5:53 or a 6:09 that gets us in at 6:27. That last one is already pushing it, so no way would we want to leave later than that.
Or, the Aerobus is an option. We want the A1 line that takes us to Terminal 1. We can pick up the bus at Placa Catalyna, Urgell, or Placa Espana (all Metro stops). The first train leaves Placa Catalyna at 5:30 and arrives at the airport at 6:05. It doesn't say specifically what time the bus arrives at Urgell or Placa Espana. It costs 5.9 Euros each, or about $7.50.

From my quick research T10 means ticket for 10 journeys. Like a 10 ride. Each journey is 2 euro. The T10 is a little under 10 euro and you get 10 rides with that ticket so it's like half price if you use it. It's truly like the Metra 10 ride. Or what that used to be. There is also a Barcelona Card that is $75 for 5 days that includes discounts, unlimited Metro travel, and a roundtrip to the airport.
ReplyDeleteIs the trip to the airport 1 of those 10 rides? Or all 10?
ReplyDeleteHard to say if the 5-day card is worth it. It's unlimited Metro rides? What about Renfe?
It looks like there are various forms of public transit in Barcelona:
ReplyDeletemetro (M)
bus (TMB)
tram (TRAM)
urban railway (FGC)
regional rail (Rodalies de Catalunya)
Something to keep in mind when trying to figure out what card gets us what.
The trip to the airport is 1 of those 10 rides. That's the way I understand it. But I could be wrong.
ReplyDeletePer the site, the Barcelona card includes:
Free travel on public transport: Barcelona metro and city buses run by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya city and suburban trains, trams, Barcelona airport train and Renfe suburban trains zone 1.
I guess I don't understand why we need a 10-ride if it's only 1 of those rides. Why can't we buy just 1?
DeleteIf we get a card, then it's kind of a moot point. Our airport ride is covered.
