Madrid Metro

The Madrid Metro is pretty intense. Seems like it will get you every where, but there are 12 subway lines that cross-cross throughout the city and then commuter trains too. Subways are numbered 1-12 (and one called R for some reason), commuter trains are C-1, C-2, etc. I'm going to focus on the Metro, cause I haven't quite figured out the trains.

This site is in general helpful. A few helpful tips on where we might want to stay.

We want to take the 8 line (pink) from the airport (assuming we fly in). It terminates at Nuevos Ministerios, where you can catch the 6 or 10.

The train to Seville leaves from Atocha train station, which if a stop on the 1 (blue) line towards Valdecarros. The train to Toledo leaves from the same station.

The train to Segovia leaves from Madrid Chamartin, which is a stop on subway lines 1 (blue) or 10 (dark blue). The train from Salamanca comes into the same station.

I think the main city center is the SOL(Metro 1, 2, 3) or Opera (2, 5, R) area.

I thought this might help us decide where to stay, but with such a good public transit, I feel we can get wherever we want pretty quickly. So maybe we should look into neighborhoods.
