Direct routes from Lisbon via train

Found this site this AM.  It lists all direct train routes from Lisbon.

  1. Seems like it kind of confirms we would need to take the hotel train to Madrid, then go from Madrid to anywhere else, correct?

    Unless you see something different.

  2. On the TAP Portugal website, it's currently telling me we can fly from Lisbon to Seville on Monday, Oct. 21 for 90 Euro, which is something like $120.

  3. There is an overnight train to Salamanca from Lisbon. It's short - only 5 hours or so. There are other direct trains from Lisbon to places in Spain, but none that we noted we wanted to see.

  4. But we get in to Salamanca at 5 AM or something, right? What would we do?

Unless we do not book a hotel room on the overnight train (to save money) but do book a hotel room in Salamanca for the night we are on the train, so we can check in at 5 AM when we get there, sleep for a few hours, get up, have lunch, hit the town.

  5. We do - this is true. Less than ideal. If it is only 5 hours I would be ok with the idea of saving money and getting the hotel room in Salamanca but am still a little concerned about overnight train travel.

  6. What don't you like about the overnight train?

  7. I'm concerned with the safety of the overnight train. I'm sure it's fine it's the fear of not knowing I suppose.

    1. I have some concerns too. I like to think that in Europe, train travel is common, not like the US where it's for people too poor to own a car. And it's the only train from Lisbon to Madrid, so it's the only option, not like you only get weird/nocturnal people on that train. I don't know, I feel like overnight trains in Europe are pretty common.

    2. It looks to me like every route from Lisbon is on the train hotel.
