Ok, so if we want to use your miles, we have to leave on Wed. August 21.
Depart Chicago at 4:05 pm on Wed. Aug 21. My flight would be $1,219, which is actually more expensive than leaving the following week. However, those costs are offset by your discounted ticket. I think your flight would be something like $150 and 60,000 miles if I read the frequent flier miles accurately.
Arrive London at 5:55 am on Thursday, Aug. 22. Depart Wed. Sept 4 at 12:20 pm. Arrive Chicago at 3:25 pm.
We have two options on 8/22. Fly directly to Iceland. Or stay in London for a few days. Do you have a preference? I guess mine would be to go straight to Iceland. I'd rather spend 3-4 consecutive days in London if we can, get settled in to one hotel. Plus it's time and money to get to/from the airport, wait through security, customs, etc. However, that may be the more expensive option. Both in terms of flights as well as how much it costs to do stuff in Iceland. After Labor Day would be cheaper, although stuff might be closed. Of course, London is probably cheaper after Labor Day as well.
The cheapest round trip we can get is on WOW Air. $340, but it doesn't leave until 8:40 pm, from London Gatwick. We can leave at 12:20 for $375. We can take a bus from Heathrow to Gatwick for $32 each. It takes 75 minutes. Or we can take the subway into downtown then back out. That'll be like $13, but could take 2 hours.
Or, if we want to leave from Heathrow, we can fly Iceland Air leave at 910 its $404 or 100 for $464.
For your reference, it gets cheaper if we wait until Sunday 8/25 or Monday 8/26 to fly London to Reykjavik. We can then do it for about $300, but we have to stay in Reykjavik until Tuesday 8/27, Saturday 8/31, or Monday 9/2 to get the lowest fares.
Not to throw a complete wrench in your research, but we both can fly to NY for free with my miles, spend a couple of days there, fly to Iceland for a week (or a shorter duration) for $840 each.
ReplyDeleteThat's fine. We can do that.
