Ok, what if we do into London, out of Dublin, or into Dublin, out of London.
One-way Chicago to London on 8/27 is $550 with a layover somewhere. A non-stop is $1400. That seems pretty consistent 8/25 to 8/28. It's the same, if not a little more expensive for the flight home. I looked at 9/10.

Can you use miles for one-way? I believe not.
Can you use miles on Aer Lingus? Are they partners with United?
I only have 17,000 miles on United. Not even enough for one flight.
